Student ID
Applying for a Hungarian Student Identification (ID) card ("Diákigazolvány"):
- First go to a government documents office ("Kormányablak" or Government Window) and claim a "NEK number". You can check for the offices here: kormanyablak.hu/hu/kormanyablakok. There is one in Baross street near the university's Tavaszmező campus. You need your passport and your accomodation card (address card).
- Once you have your NEK number, log in to Neptun system and register it. After that, claim your student card through Neptun.
- It can take a long time (weeks or months) for the card to arrive. You can get your card at your Student Coordinator.
- Remember that you have to activate your Student ID card each active semester at your coordinator's office.
Your Student ID allows you to buy mass transportation passes at a much reduced rate and a lot of other reductions. It also identifies you legally as student, which helps when dealing with police or other agencies. Keep your ID with yourself at all times.
